People turn to yoga for many reasons, seeking benefits to their lifestyle and quality of life.

At Bottoms Up Yoga we use the tagline ‘work your body, mind and palate’, and certainly those first two areas are the ones that usually draw people to yoga. It is a great way to keep fit, promoting a healthier lifestyle and of course, a degree of physical fitness. In terms of mindfulness, it can help people focus on priorities, clear their mind of negativity and work through problems they may be suffering.

Whatever causes you to become a yogi, once you are practicing regularly, it becomes hard to stop. The benefits can be felt from the moment you wake up until the moment you go to sleep, whoever you are and whatever you do. Indeed, yoga is extremely popular with celebrities just as it is with the average US citizen; with ever-increasing numbers of yogis across the country, the influence of famous people should not be understated. New people are finding their way to yoga all the time, not least because of the likes of these cultural icons leading the way.

David Beckham

Soccer player David Beckham is a style icon, and along with his wife Victoria has been for a whole generation of fashion fans. Now based here in the US, the man behind MLS franchise Inter Miami is a keen yoga enthusiast. He has found an avenue for relaxation within Bikram yoga and has spoken of how it helps his core strength too. It is believed the 45-year-old practiced couples’ power yoga with Victoria as a route to deeper intimacy and connection.

Gal Gadot

Gadot is a well-known yoga enthusiast who has seen an explosion in her popularity since taking on the role of DC Comics hero Wonder Woman. Gadot is a positive female role model, facilitated by her role as Diana Prince in the recent movies. The character has also been seen in video games, such as Justice League: Heroes, and even features in her own standalone titles on mobile devices. Wonder Woman features as a central theme for an online slot on Gala Bingo as well, further strengthening the character’s reach in the digital world, and thus her position as a strong female role model. To remain in shape for such an inspirational and influential role, Gadot is regularly seen doing yoga, with the beach as one of her favored locations.

Jennifer Aniston

The Friends star is a big fan of yoga and has always been keen to discuss how much she benefits from it during interviews. “Yoga kind of helps you prepare for everything, honestly,” the 52-year-old told E Online. “It’s like meditation. It sort of just allows anything that’s coming at you at the end of the day to be kind of doable.” She has been known to practice Yogalosophy, a discipline developed by her coach and friend, Mandy Ingber.

Robert Downey Jr.

Another celebrity to benefit from playing a comic book role is Robert Downey Jr., also known as Tony Stark from Iron Man. It was his appearance in the 2008 film of the same name that sparked the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe of 23 films and counting. Downey Jr. has portrayed Stark no fewer than 10 times throughout the franchise and will reprise that role in Black Widow, out later this year. That success comes after a troubled past dogged by addiction issues, something yoga has helped him overcome. Without yoga, there may be no Marvel Cinematic Universe at all, as Iron Man surely would not have been a success without his stellar performance.
