Easy, Affordable, and Accessible Self-Care
There’s an unfortunate belief that self-care has to be expensive and requires a week away from home. The truth is far different, and many forms of self-care are readily available, affordable, and won’t take up all of your time. Today’s tips are brought to you by Bottoms Up! Yoga.
Self-Care And Emotions
Before we get into specifics, it’s important to understand how your emotions are affected by self-care or lack thereof. When you do not take good care of yourself, you won’t be as effective a communicator, you’ll be the “negative Nancy” of the room, and you will likely come across as a chronic pessimist. This can hurt your personal relationships. If you’re an entrepreneur, you must pay attention to how your emotions convey in a professional environment, or you may risk damaging the business you’ve worked so hard to build.
Self-Care Tips
Get enough sleep.
Sleep is essential to our everyday and overall health and well-being. Get at least eight hours each night so that you can wake each morning refreshed and ready to tackle whatever problems may arise.
Find a mentor.
Whether for business or personal needs, look for a mentor or coach with whom you can bounce things off. Having somebody who’s been in your shoes before can even lead you down the path to understanding what’s causing your self-neglect and negativism in the first place.
Work with a medical professional.
As you begin your journey toward living a healthier lifestyle, think about professionals that can help. If you are trying to lose weight or eat healthier, for example, you might start with your primary care physician. If you don’t already have a doctor, consider scheduling an online doctor appointment with a provider that meets your needs and budget. Online therapy and medical visits are affordable and, importantly in our busy lifestyles, convenient and accessible from anywhere.
Do yoga.
Yoga is great for the mind, body, and soul. And, like working with a medical professional, there are plenty of ways to access excellent yoga instruction online. Bottoms Up! Yoga offers virtual classes, and, if budget is an issue, check out the VStudio account for donation-based options.
Grow a garden.
There are many self-care benefits associated with gardening. The first and most obvious is having access to healthy, organic foods from right outside of your door. But, tending your vegetables, fruits, or flowers also gives you an opportunity to get outdoors, spend some time with yourself, and feel the sunshine on your cheeks.
Get a hobby.
The Developing Good Habits blog lists nearly two dozen reasons that getting a hobby is good for you. These include stress relief, relaxation, and even career improvement. It does not matter what your hobby is, just do something that you love, even if it’s not what everyone else is doing. A few great hobbies to consider are photography, sewing, and drawing.
Book a massage.
An average one-hour massage will probably cost you around $80. But the benefits are more valuable than the dollars you’ll spend. Self explains that a massage can relieve tension, help you sleep, and may even offer some relief for joint pain. If $80 is out of reach, check with your insurance to see if they will cover therapeutic massage with a doctor’s prescription.
Taking good care of yourself doesn’t have to mean vacations, manicures, or other pricey indulgences. While you will spend some money on things like yoga, online doctor visits, and gardening supplies, you must weigh the costs against the rewards. Ultimately, how you take care of yourself will affect how you take care of your family and your business, and you can’t afford to sacrifice your health and wellness because of lack of time or money.
